For every movement, there is strength in numbers. This year, we were blown away by how strong we can be with the support of our 2.6 million volunteers.
In June, we celebrated their giving spirit on #DayofAction, our global community day of service. Here are some of the highlights...
Around the world, volunteers worked to fight hunger in communities. They served up meals, built community gardens and worked to make sure kids are set up to get breakfast and lunch throughout the summer when school is out. In a world where one in nine people don't have enough food to be active and healthy, this support is vital.
Volunteers also worked to boost early childhood literacy. They collected books, made literacy kits, read to kids and worked with families to set up reading routines at home. Reading by third grade can make or break a young person's shot at graduating later in life. By getting books in hand and reading early, we can give kids the tools they need for success. There is still so much work to be done right in your neighborhood. So find out first-hand about the many perks of giving back. Find a volunteer opportunity where you live. We’ll be that much stronger with you by our side. |
