Obama Promotes New Health Care Law Posted: 25 Mar 2010 06:58 PM PDT U.S. President Barack Obama is promoting historic health care reform, as a new poll shows Americans divided over the sweeping legislation he signed into law on Tuesday. Mr. Obama hailed the reform in a speech to an audience in the midwestern city of Iowa City Thursday. He said health insurance reform is now the law of the land. Also Thursday, the U.S. Senate approved a package of changes to the new law, sending them to the House of Representatives. Minority Republicans tried to stall the package with a series of amendments, but all were rejected. Some Democrats in the House had demanded those changes in exchange for approving the original health care reform bill. Republicans are solidly opposed to the new law. A survey by Quinnipiac University shows Americans in general are split on the issue, with nearly half of the respondents saying they disapprove of the new law, while 40 percent say they approve. Congressional Democrats also have been the target of threats and acts of vandalism following the health care vote. The speaker of the House of Representatives, Democrat Nancy Pelosi, and Republican Minority Leader John Boehner, said those actions have no place in American politics. House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer said at least 10 members of Congress have received threats to themselves or their family members over the past few days.

Bin Laden Warns US Against Executing 9/11 Mastermind Posted: 25 Mar 2010 06:52 PM PDT Osama bin Laden is threatening to kill any American captured by al-Qaida if the United States executes the alleged mastermind of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The Arabic television network al Jazeera aired an audiotape on Thursday, in which bin Laden explicitly mentions Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, who is set to be tried in a U.S. federal court or military tribunal. Mohammed and four alleged co-conspirators could face the death penalty for charges that include murder and terrorism in connection with the 2001 attacks on the U.S. In the audio message, bin Laden also said U.S. President Barack Obama is following in the footsteps of his predecessor, George W. Bush, by escalating the war in Afghanistan, oppressing al-Qaida prisoners, and supporting Israel in its "occupation of Palestinian land." There was no immediate independent verification of the recording's authenticity. White House spokesman Robert Gibbs did not respond directly to the comments Thursday, but said the Obama administration will keep up the pressure to destroy the al-Qaida network. The U.S.-based IntelCenter that monitors terrorist propaganda, said bin Laden's threat could signal an increased kidnapping risk targeting Americans during the trial of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed in the U.S.
US, Russia Hammer Out New Nuclear Agreement Posted: 25 Mar 2010 06:46 PM PDT The United States and Russia say a new strategic arms agreement will be formally announced when the presidents of both countries have spoken with one another about it. White House and Russian Foreign Ministry spokesmen say the conversation is expected soon. A new accord would set an auspicious tone for President Barack Obama's nuclear summit in Washington on April 12 and 13. The agreement faced difficult negotiations, and more problems could emerge during ratification in the U.S. Senate. Before the United States and Soviet Union signed the 1991 Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START) both sides had tens of thousands of nuclear warheads. The pact mandated a reduction to about 6,000. Seeking to reset Washington's strained ties with Moscow, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton promised to work closely with Russia to sign a new agreement for further reductions. She spoke in Geneva nine months before START was to expire in December 2009. "There is a lot of work to be done," Clinton said. "We think this is a fresh start, not only to improve our bilateral relationship but to lead the world in important areas, particularly with respect to nuclear weapons and nuclear security." During his visit to Moscow last July, President Obama said the United States and Russia must lead by example to reduce the threat of nuclear proliferation. He later reported progress toward that goal, even though the old START treaty had expired. Russian analyst Viktor Litovkin, associate editor of the Independent Military Review, says several issues held up agreement. Litovkin says that first of all, these were issues of verification, transparency and control - control equivalence. Another obstacle, he adds, was undoubtedly the connection between strategic offensive and strategic defensive weapons. The new agreement is expected to reduce each country's number of nuclear warheads for each side to about 1,500. Delivery systems, such as missiles and bombers, will also be limited. It also raises expectations for further weapons reductions in the years ahead. Moscow expressed concern throughout the negotiating process that a U.S. missile defense system in central Europe proposed by the Bush Administration would neutralize Russian offensive weapons. This despite U.S. assurances that the system was designed to defend against Iran. President Obama reconfigured the proposed system and moved its elements closer to Iran. Treaty ratification will require 67 votes in the U.S. Senate. Mindful of Republican opposition to any agreement that limited missile defense in Europe, U.S. negotiators are reported to have pushed the issue hard with Russian counterparts. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov assured Secretary Clinton in Geneva last year that his country shared America's common non-proliferation goal, including Iran and the Korean peninsula. The 1991 START treaty took more than 400 days to ratify. But whatever the fate of the new START agreement, U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon recently underscored its immediate importance. "This will have a hugely positive impact on the forthcoming Washington summit meeting on nuclear disarmament as well as the NPT [Nuclear Proliferation Treaty] review conference which will be held in May in New York," Mr. Ban noted. And success of that conference, said Mr. Ban, can help the whole world live without fear of nuclear weapons.

5 Things The Media Loves Pretending Are News Posted: 25 Mar 2010 06:07 PM PDT Reporting the news is really hard. We've seen those poor guys standing in the hurricanes, trying to hold on to their microphone while debris flies by. And it's a good thing we have them; blogs and Twitter are nice, but to find out what's really going on in the world, at some point you need good old-fashioned journalism. So can you blame a news outlet for using shortcuts and falling into the same old mistakes and cliches over and over again, just to fill space? Yes, yes we can. #5. Let's Ask the Idiots About Science When it comes to matters of opinion or personal beliefs, it is absolutely the duty of the news media to report both sides (and any extra sides there may be, on those rare odd occasions when there are somehow more than two). It doesn't matter which one they agree with, they need to acknowledge the fact that some people think gay marriage is a right and others think the gays are forming a unicorn army that will kill us all.
When it comes to matters of fact, however, they absolutely do not have that duty. Particularly when it comes to technical or scientific matters where it takes somebody with training to speak knowledgably on the subject. If we're talking about if, say, vaccines cause autism, we need to hear from scientists. That's a scientific issue. We do not need to hear from Jenny McCarthy or Jim fucking Carrey, in the name of giving "both sides." Jim and Jenny don't get a side. They have no background in the subject, and it's one that requires fucking background.
Sure, they can talk about poisonous vaccines to Oprah or whoever is sitting next to them at the Lakers game all they want. They have freedom of speech. That freedom does not guarantee them a seat on a panel of experts. Yet, this kind of stupidity happens constantly. You get articles like this one from the Toronto Star, explaining how an investigation revealed how World Trade Center building 7 collapsed: Scientists with the National Institute of Standards and Technology say their three-year investigation of the collapse determined the demise of WTC 7 was the first time in the world a fire caused the total failure of a modern skyscraper. The organization they mentioned, the NIST, studies how buildings collapse so that they can make sure future buildings don't collapse. But instead of going into further detail on their extensive investigation, we get this: Mike Berger of the group 9/11 Truth said he wasn't buying the government's explanation. "Their explanation simply isn't sufficient. We're being lied to," he said. Ah, yes, the conspiracy nut. Again, we would never deny a crazy person the right to be crazy. They just shouldn't get a voice equal to that of hundreds of highly-trained experts. It can't be done that way. After all, there is a contingent of conspiracy kooks drifting around every subject. You don't stop every story about AIDS in Africa to hear from the John Bircher who thinks AIDS is a secret government population control project spread by fluoridated water. But we can't just disregard their opinions, can we? Yes. Yes we can. If you're going to weigh in on a scientific matter, you need to bring data, gathered by people who know what the fuck they're talking about. If the subject is medicinal marijuana, we're not going to quote a stoner who has suddenly realized his hands can talk. #4. "_______gate" The first rule of modern journalism is that everything has to have a cute nickname. When celebrities are dating you mash their names together (Bradgelina!) and when there's a scandal, or anything that sort of looks like a scandal, you tack "-gate" onto the end.
Obviously we can thank the Watergate Scandal for this, which was only named that because it involved a break-in at the Watergate hotel, which itself was named after a planned reception area on the shore of the Potomac river that oh by the way, does not exist. We get another "-gate" about once a year these days. The Clinton administration had like five different -gate scandals (Troopergate, Travelgate, etc). But now? Janet Jackson's nip slip at the Superbowl--Nipplegate. Tom Cruise mad at an episode of South Park that makes fun of Scientology? Closetgate. Someone crashes Obama's party at the White House? Gatecrashergate. Soon we expect to learn Secretary of Defense Robert Gates is using public funds to buy himself a new gate in Gatesgategate.
You can also thank New York Times columnist William Safire, who started 'gating every scandal starting all the way back in 1974, when Watergate was still going on. Thanks to him, journalists get a Bonergate every time they think there's a gate-worthy scandal, and political pundits are always eager to hang a -gate on the other side (see the "climategate" emails).
The only thing that makes us feel better is the knowledge that, in some alternate universe, the Watergate hotel was instead named after John Hancock. #3. Now for the Weather You have to feel sorry for weather men and women. These days you can get a weather forecast within five seconds on your PC or cell phone. So there is a certain desperation that comes with a guy who is doing a job he knows is not only obsolete, but a little bit silly. As a result, there are two types of weathermen/weatherwomen: the "Michael Bay" and "Captain Obvious."
The "Michael Bays" love to play up any kind of severe storm like it's straight from the Book of Revelation. They've been waiting all year for this, and immediately become the weather version of the sensationalist reporter, knowing that all eyes are on them. First step? Come up with a rad name for the storm. Then stand in front of a graphic that says, "The Blizzard of Oz" or "Snowmageddon" or "The You Gonna Get Stabbed in the Eyeball With an Icicle Like That Guy In Die Hard 2 Coldocalypse of '08."
One example: A Portland, Oregon news site went on a frenzy calling an upcoming winter storm "Winter Blast." The result? According to this site, Portland got two inches of snow. For the entire month of December. Holy Shit, two inches! Why that's enough snow to build a four inch tall snowman, then look at pathetic said snowman, think of your childhood and wonder if you'll ever be able to feel anything ever again. Then we have Captain Obvious. "Breaking news, everybody. It's snowing! In Chicago! In January!" Enjoy this CNN report, with their team tracking the kind of storm they get in Chicago every year at this time. That's a national news channel there, breaking in to let you know that the weather in Chicago is doing exactly what you would expect. They could take that report, stash it in a drawer and pull it out every year at this time and it would still apply. Speaking of which...

Tahukah kamu,Seseorang Bisa 6.000 Kali Sakit?

Saudi Arabia Arrests More than 100 Al-Qaida Suspects Posted: 25 Mar 2010 05:10 AM PDT Saudi Arabia has announced one its largest anti-terrorist sweeps in years, arresting more than 100 people suspected of involvement in al-Qaida plots. More than half of those detained are said to be from Yemen. The Saudi Defense Ministry released a statement that those arrested are thought to be part of a terror network and two small cells that planned to attack oil and security targets in the kingdom. The ministry said the suspects have ties to al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula, the Yemen-based off-shoot of Osama bin Laden's terrorist network. That link - plus the naming of 51 Yemenis as being involved in the plots - comes as the Saudi government tries to reinforce the border with its southern neighbor, in part, to contain the spillover from one of Yemen's civil conflicts. A Somali, an Eritrean and a Bengali are also among those arrested - a foreign element that provides a new challenge to the Saudi government, which has focused strongly on countering terror domestically. Khaled al-Maeena is the editor-in-chief of the Saudi English newspaper Arab News. "Saudi Arabia, which has done so much with the rehab [rehailitation] program - getting people, inducing them to take the right path - suddenly finds itself with these people who are outside the pale of the law, are trying to commit acts of violence, creating confusion that leads to bloodshed," he said. Saudi Arabia has taken pride in its efforts to bring militants back into society. But there have been high profile set-backs, including a failed assassination attempt against a top security official last year by a supposedly reformed extremist. The announcement on Wednesday of the pre-emptive arrests and confiscation of explosives is the latest in an otherwise largely successful attempt in recent years to prevent terror attacks in the country, the birthplace of many top al-Qaida leaders.
FM says Pakistan Will Prevail in Struggle with Insurgents Posted: 25 Mar 2010 05:08 AM PDT Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi told top U.S. officials Wednesday his government will prevail in its struggle with the Taliban and other Islamic radicals. He spoke at the close of the first day of a bilateral dialogue that he said yielded a U.S. agreement to fast track delivery to Pakistan of key military supplies. The ministerial-level dialogue in Washington still has another day of sessions Thursday. But Foreign Minister Qureshi, the Pakistani delegation leader, says he is already happy and satisfied that U.S. Pakistani ties are moving from a relationship to a partnership. Qureshi, at a press event with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, said he and his team have found in Washington a new appreciation for the strength of Pakistan's emerging democracy and for its military drive to turn back a Taliban insurgency that only a matter of months appeared to threaten Islamabad. He said Washington had agreed to fast-track or accelerate Pakistani requests for military hardware, some of them pending for months and years. And he said Pakistan's ongoing military offensive, which has killed a number of key insurgent leaders, has made believers out of U.S. officials who little more than a year ago were accusing Pakistan of yielding to the Taliban by its accommodation with militant tribesmen in the SWAT valley region. "Everybody said: you signed the SWAT deal. Capitulation. Surrender. I said hold on. That's a tactic. Wait. Wait till you see the results. And we have demonstrated the results," said Shah Mehmood Qureshi. "The people of Pakistan, the armed forces of Pakistan have shown the resolve, the determination and the commitment. And we're going to win. And we're going to win in this struggle because defeat is not an option." The dialogue, which also includes defense and intelligence chiefs of the two governments, has already yielded a list of other agreements including U.S. rehabilitation of three Pakistani thermal electric plants to help deal with chronic power outages. Pakistan is understood to be seeking a civil nuclear agreement with the United States like the one the Bush administration concluded with India. Clinton made no commitment on that, other than to say the U.S. side will discuss any issue the Pakistanis raise. She said despite the amity evident at the State Department meetings, the two countries will not agree on all issues yet are determined to make the dialogue process succeed. "Will we have disagreements? Of course," said Hillary Clinton. "We have disagreement with all of our friends from time to time. Yet we don't want anything to disrupt or divert our attention from building this relationship into a partnership, as the foreign minister has said - a partnership that really stands the test of time." Clinton said earlier the strategic dialogue, begun in 2006 but only now upgraded to the ministerial level, heralded a new day in the relationship, which has been marred by strains over the years. Qureshi, whose government has been accused in the past of ambivalence about cross-border activity by the Taliban in Afghanistan, said Pakistan now has far more manned outposts along the border than does Afghanistan. He said the unprecedented Pakistani border security effort, along with Islamabad's own offensive against the Taliban, have had a significant impact in Afghanistan which is now being acknowledged by Kabul authorities.
US, Pakistan Set for Second Day of Talks Posted: 25 Mar 2010 05:05 AM PDT Top U.S. and Pakistani officials are set to meet for the second day of the U.S.-Pakistan Strategic Dialogue in Washington, after making progress on developing a more sustainable partnership Wednesday. U.S. Secretary of State Hilary Clinton and Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi will continue to discuss a Pakistani list of proposals - including requests for more military equipment such as drone aircraft, aid for improving the country's energy industry, and economic stimulus efforts. Qureshi told reporters Wednesday that the first day of talks yielded a U.S. agreement to "fast track" delivery of key military supplies to Pakistan. He said he is happy that U.S.-Pakistani ties are progressing from a relationship to a partnership. Clinton said the United States stands with Pakistanis as they rebuild communities and "rid their country of those who seek to destroy it." She also said advancing the security of Pakistanis means more than military aid. She said the country's chronic problems, such as joblessness and energy shortages, need to be addressed. She mentioned Washington's $7.5 billion civilian aid program as evidence of that commitment. Pakistani officials have shown interest in a deal similar to Washington's civilian nuclear power agreement with India. But U.S. officials have been reluctant to endorse such a deal, saying the process with India took several years of sustained talks. The Pakistani foreign minister said he hopes for continued U.S. "constructive engagement" on Pakistan's long-running dispute with India over Kashmir. Qureshi also said his country is "doing its part" to facilitate peace in Afghanistan. He said the unprecedented Pakistani border security effort, along with Islamabad's own offensive against the Taliban, have had a significant impact in Afghanistan which is now being acknowledged by Kabul authorities.
Netanyahu Says Progress Made with US in Reviving Peace Process Posted: 25 Mar 2010 05:02 AM PDT Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ended a visit to the U.S., saying he has made some progress in resolving a dispute with the Obama administration about Israel's construction plans in East Jerusalem. Mr. Netanyahu was speaking early Thursday as boarded a plane to fly back to Israel. Although no breakthroughs were announced during his three day visit, the Israeli leader said he thinks his government has found a "golden" path to move the Israeli-Palestinian peace process forward while maintaining Israel's national interests. Earlier, the White House said Mr. Obama had asked Mr. Netanyahu during talks Tuesday to "take steps to build confidence" for indirect Israeli-Palestinian negotiations that Washington has offered to mediate. Israeli officials say Mr. Netanyahu delayed his return to Israel to try to reach a consensus on confidence-building measures. On Monday, Mr. Netanyahu insisted Israel has a right to build in all of Jerusalem, including the occupied eastern sector that Palestinians claim as a future capital. The U.S. opposes such activity. Before leaving Washington, Mr. Netanyahu held talks at his hotel with U.S. Middle East envoy George Mitchell in what reports described as a last-ditch effort to resolve the U.S.-Israeli dispute. Tensions between the two close allies erupted earlier this month when Israel announced a plan to build 1,600 new homes for Jews in East Jerusalem. The plan drew condemnation from the White House, the European Union, the United Nations and Palestinians. U.S. officials say that the Israeli plan could prejudge a final peace deal. Israeli media reported Tuesday that authorities in Jerusalem recently gave final approval for a separate plan to build 20 homes for Jews in another part of East Jerusalem. Israel initially approved the plan to partially redevelop a vacant hotel in the Sheikh Jarrah district last year. Mr. Netanyahu's office said Wednesday Jews and Arabs have a right to buy and sell private property freely in Jerusalem. U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon denounced the Sheikh Jarrah project as illegal under international law, saying all Israeli settlement activity must stop.

Sejak zaman perjuangan dulu, kita udah make bedil gan, meskipun kebanyakan comotan (rampasan) dari Belanda, Inggris, ato Jepang.. Rate of fire: 500 peluru/menit. Jarak efektif: 60 m. 2. Jarak efektif: 503 m. 3. Owen Owen merupakan SMG buatan Australia. Pertama diproduksi tahun 1938. Didesain oleh Evelyn Owen, veteran tentara Australia. DIbuat berdasarkan SMG Sten Gun Inggris dan Thompson amerika. Dirampas dari Inggris. Rate of Fire: 700 peluru/menit. 4. M1 Garand Mungkin inilah bolt action rifle sekutu paling terkenal di muka bumi semasa perang dunia 2. Senjata ini pasti jadi senjata wajib kalo agan main game fps WWII kayak Call of Duty. Senjata bolt action terlaris dalam sejarah. Buatan Amerika Serikat, pertama diproduksi tahun 1936. Didesain oleh John C. Garand. Dirampas dari Inggris dan Belanda. Jarak efektif 402 m. 5. Pertama diproduksi 1935. Dirampas dari Inggris dan Belanda. Rate of Fire: 500–520 peluru/menit. Jarak efektif: 550 m. 6. Arisaka (有坂銃 Arisaka-jū) merupakan bolt action rifle buatan Jepang. Terdiri dari 5 varian, type 30, 38, 44, 97, 99. Pejuang Indonesia paling banyak menggunakan yang 44. Diproduksi pertama kali 1898. Dirampas dari Jepang. Jarak efektif: 400 m. 7. Rate of Fire: 500 peluru/menit. Jarak efektif 540 m. UPDATE 8. Rate of Fire: 500–600 peluru per menit. Jarak efektif 800 m. 9. Rate of Fire: 600-1200 peluru/menit. Jarak efektif: 50 m.
